BIOGRAPHY
ALEJANDRO ROMERO
He completed his undergraduate studies in composition at the Escuela Superior de Música under Arturo Márquez and privately with Ana Lara and Hilda Paredes. He holds a Master's degree in musical composition from the Faculty of Music at UNAM. He took composition courses with Franco Donatoni. Throughout his training, he developed a strong interest in musical meaning, which led him toward semiological-musical research, studying with academic musicians such as Jean-Jacques Nattiez, Gino Stefani, Francois Bernard Mâche, David Lidov, and Raymond Monelle, within the framework of the UNAM Seminar on Musical Semiotics, where he was an active member from 1998 to 2006. He has been a member of the National System of Art Creators (SNCA) in the years 2005, 2010, and 2014. Abroad, his music has been performed at several festivals in countries such as Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and Colombia, by musicians and ensembles such as Spanish pianist Alberto Rosado, French accordionist Vincent Lhermet, German singer and improviser Ute Wassermann, English violinist Irvine Arditti, as well as L’Ensemble intercontemporain, Platypus Ensemble, the Cepromusicensemble, and Mexico’s major orchestras. His music is characterized by a very personal and expressive writing style, where the deep work with sound reveals his strong interest in timbre, with complex sounds being the central axis of his sonic construction.
He is currently a doctoral candidate in the DAVEI-INBAL program (Doctorate in Visual, Scenic, and Interdisciplinary Arts). He is a member of the SNCA (National System of Art Creators). He is a professor of composition, analysis, and orchestration at the Escuela Superior de Música (INBAL).
